Many of us have heard it. Some of us have said it. Everything happens for a reason. Look at the silver lining. This experience is a lesson from the universe.

What we might not know is that these words can be unintentionally harmful at best, and strategically re-traumatizing at worst.

But there are other ways. Ways to hold space, listen deeply & meet people in their pain while connecting with our own nervous system.

A note from your author, Jess

Who am I to write about spiritual bypassing?

I am a healing practitioner who has been bristled by bypassing language at many a training.

I am a trauma-informed bodyworker and survivor who has been told: “you needed this for your healing.”

I am fired up about making waves in the healing community, and am honored to present this workbook to you. Whether you are a practitioner looking for support in using kinder language, or you are someone who has been harmed by spiritual bypassing.

Thank you for being here. May we begin.

What readers are saying

It has helped me to gain a deeper understanding of spiritual bypassing and how to hold a safer container of space for others in my work.
— Samantha G
This offering gave me more confidence to tell my loved ones that sometimes telling me to “stay positive” is unhelpful and that I just need to vent about how awful my circumstances are.
— anonymous
The guide is beautifully presented, easy to follow and has helped me personally and in my role as a youth worker. It has helped me to recognize thoughts and feelings on a much deeper level.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ Is this right for me if I’ve never heard of spiritual bypassing before?

Yes! My hope in offering this guide is that it can be a pivotal starting place for folks who are just growing new awareness about spiritual bypassing. I sought to be clear, gentle, and illuminating in my language, with concrete examples and analogies, as well.

+ What does the guide look like?

I shared a few example pages above (without showing too much - always a tricky balance!), so you can get a sense. There are subtle splashes of color in the same vein as the cover illustration, and simple design elements so you can explore this guide with ease. Each page is 8.5x11 inches, and you can view it booklet-style side by side, or one page at a time.

+ Can I buy this guide for a friend?

Absolutely! Just enter their e-mail in the checkout process, and they will receive the digital link.

+ May I share this guide?

Thanks for asking. Please do not share this guide in its entirety with others. This helps to compensate and respect my time, labor, and energy. You are welcome to share pieces of this workbook and your process of moving through it with folx in your life. If you’d like to share on social media, I ask that you please tag me (@softpathhealing) and/or #itsnotallgood — only if you’d like to, of course!

+ How will I receive this guide?

After you purchase, the guide will be delivered to you via an e-mail with a link! From there, you can download your guide.

+ How do I write in this guide digitally?

You can download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader and view this workbook digitally and type in it there. You can look at it in full pages, or select booklet view to see two pages at once. The fillable journaling prompt boxes will show up with light blue highlight so you know where to type. If you would like to turn this off, click Adobe Reader —> Preferences —> Forms —> and deselect “show border hover color for fields”.

+ How do I print this guide?

You can print the guide portrait, on a 2-sided setting. In your printer settings, select “flip on the long edge” and it should print properly. For some devices, you may need to select “fit to page”. Once printed, you can staple the guide or sew it along the side.

+ How does sliding scale pricing work?

Sliding scale means you can self-select the price that feels most affordable and doable for you. If you are able, choosing the top tier helps support me and folks who can afford the middle or bottom tier. If the middle or bottom tier is more accessible to you, wonderful. To select the rate that’s right for you, you might consider finances and proximity to wealth (income, family members, etc.), your privilege and accesses (including stable housing, medical care, savings, etc.). More information about sliding scale is available in the shop listing.

+ Do you offer refunds?

Due to the digital nature of this product, I don’t offer refunds.
